An Action Girls Guide to NYC
Having recently launched the MISTAMINA collection stateside, I thought this month’s blog would be the perfect opportunity to share with you some of my favourite things about living in NYC, being country girl at heart. I hope you enjoy my action girl’s guide to the city!
Best Broadway musical
I love the Book of Mormon! The humour is so satirical, just like British comedy, which makes me feel at home.
The best coffee in NYC
Contrary to typical New York fashion, I don’t actually drink coffee! I’m also really struggling to find good tea in America… If anyone knows where I can buy some lovely English Breakfast tea in Manhattan, I’d really appreciate it!
Best place to shop
I live off Lexington Avenue and love all the little boutique shops around me. New York is the best place to discover little independent shops and brands that stock the most gorgeous and unique pieces.
Most impressive building
The 9/11 memorial is just breath-taking. It’s amazing how they’ve turned such a harrowing and sad event into something so beautiful and reverent. My favourite building has got to be the Chrysler building, it’s iconic.
Best place for some peace and quiet
With its reputation as the city that never sleeps, finding peace and quiet in New York can often be difficult. However, if you know the right spots, oases do exist. Personally, I like to walk my dog Uni early as it’s so quiet. I also love sitting by the boat pond at the entrance on 72nd and 5th .
Best way to get around
Uber! I haven’t mastered the subway yet…
Best cocktail bar
The Lowell hotel is my favourite as it has everything. There is a lovely bar for evening cocktails, a log fire burning in the sitting room which is perfect for afternoon tea, as well as a beautiful roof terrace for when the weather is nice. Bliss.
Favourite food shop
For fine dining, Kappo Masa is my favourite place for dinner. The restaurant is owned by acclaimed chef Masa Takayama and serves the most delicious sushi and Japanese food.
